WTO continues to lead the world in live tool innovation

At the recent EMO show in Hannover, WTO released its new range of smart driven toolholders to complement its existing range of static and driven toolholders.

QuickFlex® smart is a new generation of smart driven toolholder featuring an integrated wireless electronic sensor/transmitter unit for monitoring speed, temperature, vibration and runtime. The data is sent securely via Bluetooth to provide Industry 4.0 connectivity.

QuickFlex® smart, is built on the successful QuickFlex® quick change system which WTO designed for its comprehensive range of static and driven precision toolholders.

QuickFlex® is the perfect combination; an ER collet chuck and quick change system in the one toolholder which reduces tool change time and provides higher flexibility.

Starting with a minimal investment, the customer can clamp the cutting tools directly in the toolholder using a standard ER collet. Whilst the toolholder can be used without a quick change system initially, quick change adapters can be purchased later.

“WTO has been conscious of the need to offer a product that allows customers to add QuickFlex® when budget allows,” said Dimac’s Managing Director, Paul Fowler.

A quick change starter kit allows customers to update to the quick change function easily and cost effectively. Step by step the quick change function can be added for reducing tool change time. The cutting tools can also be pre-set while the machine is operating, which means the set-up time for tool change at the machine can be significantly reduced.

Another industry innovation is CoolSpeed® smart; a high speed spindle offering high rotation speeds up to 40,000 rpm and driven by the internal coolant supply (IC). It features a standard toolholder interface to fit on any machine along with wireless electronic speed monitoring.

“Industry 4.0 ready, QuickFlex® smart and CoolSpeed® smart will enable intelligent online process monitoring of automated manufacturing processes for CNC Turning Centres,” Mr Fowler went on to say.

In another world premiere, WTO also released a new quick change system for Swiss type turning centres. The new NanoFlex® quick change system is specifically deigned for Swiss type turning centres and reduces the tool change time, whilst increasing flexibility and productivity.

Other new products include Blade toolholders featuring a high pressure internal coolant supply (IC) which increases cutting tool life and performance. Cutting tool life and cutting feed rate can also be increased by using the new generation of Shank toolholders which also offers a high pressure internal coolant supply.

A new high performance Thread Whirling unit is yet another new product that offers a patented quick change system, proving a significant reduction in tool set-up time.

Complementing these new innovations, WTO also offers its existing range of skiving, broaching and hobbing units.

“Along with new Industry 4.0 ‘smart’ toolholders, additional product innovations and its existing product line-up, WTO continues to set the benchmark for driven tool technology. Their technological and superior products are known for achieving higher productivity and longer tool life,” Mr Fowler added.

Dimac Tooling is Australia and New Zealand’s leading supplier of accessories and workholding solutions for CNC milling and CNC turning machine tools. The company also manufactures soft and hard jaws in their own CNC equipped machine shop in Dandenong, Victoria.

“Like all the products we sell, the WTO range has the full back up and support of Dimac technical personnel to ensure the product is installed correctly and operates at optimum performance,” Mr Fowler concluded.
